Terms of Service

Last updated: 22 February 2026

Agreement

By using Lithium, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, don’t use the service.

What Lithium is

Lithium is an end-to-end encrypted productivity application. You can use it to create notes, manage tasks, and organise your work. Your content is encrypted on your device before it reaches our servers.

Your account

  • You need a valid email address to create an account
  • You’re responsible for keeping your password secure
  • Your password is your encryption key. If you lose it and haven’t set up a recovery password, your data is permanently inaccessible. We cannot reset it for you. This is a feature, not a limitation.
  • One person per account. Don’t share credentials.
  • You must be at least 13 years old to use Lithium

Your data

  • You own your data. We don’t claim any rights to the content you create.
  • Your content is end-to-end encrypted. We can’t read it and we don’t try to.
  • You can export your data at any time.
  • You can delete your account at any time, which permanently removes your data from our servers.

Acceptable use

Don’t use Lithium to:

  • Break the law
  • Store or distribute content that exploits minors
  • Attempt to compromise the security of other users’ accounts
  • Deliberately overload or disrupt the service
  • Reverse engineer the encryption to access other users’ data

Since we can’t see your content, we rely on you to use the service responsibly.

Third-party integrations

Lithium offers optional integrations (e.g., Google Calendar). When you connect a third-party service:

  • You authorise Lithium to access the data you’ve permitted (e.g., read-only calendar access)
  • Your third-party credentials are encrypted with your personal key before storage
  • You can revoke access at any time from Settings
  • Third-party services are subject to their own terms and privacy policies

Service availability

  • We aim to keep Lithium available and reliable, but we don’t guarantee 100% uptime
  • We may perform maintenance that temporarily affects availability
  • We’ll give reasonable notice for planned downtime where possible

Intellectual property

  • Lithium’s code, design, and branding belong to us
  • Your content belongs to you
  • The open-source components of Lithium are governed by their respective licences

Limitation of liability

Lithium is provided “as is”. To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • We’re not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
  • Our total liability is limited to the amount you’ve paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim
  • We’re not responsible for data loss resulting from forgotten passwords (we genuinely can’t help - that’s how end-to-end encryption works)

Termination

  • You can stop using Lithium and delete your account at any time
  • We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms
  • If we terminate your account, we’ll provide reasonable notice and an opportunity to export your data, unless the termination is due to illegal activity

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-app notification. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ireland.
